Harlequin Rabbit Breed
Originating in France and first exhibited in Paris in 1887, The Harlequin breed is a little bit different compared to other rabbit breeds, most rabbits are judged by their type while Harlequins are judged based on a color pattern consisting of bars, bands, and splits. Harlequins come in 4 base colors (black, blue, chocolate, and lilac.) These colors will be accompanied by a secondary color (orange on Japanese, and white on magpies.) Harlequins are often confused with some other breeds, due to harlequin also being a color.

We work with all four-color v\arieties. Though some of our best rabbits are black magpie, we do have a dilute line in the works, and most of our dense colors carry dilute. We keep are harlequins closely, and thoughtfully line bred in order to keep some of the best genetics in the state of PA. We have some amazing show lines, from some very amazing breeders, we have worked closely with over the years to achieve the best marked rabbits.

In the fall of 2025 we decided to do a little experiment and start a Japanese line. Instead of taking a twelve-hour trip somewhere or paying over one hundred dollars for a transport fee of one rabbit I took one of my best New Zealand red bucks and crossed him with my favorite magpie doe. This litter resulted in 8 sub par Marked Japanese kits. Unfortunately this litter did not make it, so we kept searching. We eventually found a litter of Japanese closer than we thought we would find. We bought two does and a buck.
Spring 2026, started by breeding the new Japanese bucks to our seasoned magpie doe. We did the exact opposite with TLR’s King to the chocolate Japanese doe. These breedings would be the official start to our project.
